The Definition Giclee (zhee-klay) - The French word "giclée" translates as sprayed or squirted liquid. In French it is used as a noun, and has become the term in the United States that describes a finished product of sprayed ink. (anyone remember the term “ink jet”?)
What does this mean for you? It means we can reproduce your original negatives, slides, or digital files as beautiful works of art. Mastercolor can produce your Giclee Prints on three varieties of material. Our Canvas Giclee, which creates the appearance of oil paintings is our most popular surface for portraits but can also create a magnificent scenic as well. If you wish to flat mount your Canvas Giclee we will happily mount these to our Masonite boards or Styrene boards. The most popular way to display your Canvas Giclee is to have it Gallery Wrapped. Just as an artist creates their image on stretched canvas, your masterpiece will reflect the same beauty.
Giclees on Smooth and Textured Art Papers are very popular for printing landscapes, or any image you capture that you feel would look perfect on artist “watercolor paper”. Our Art Paper Giclees also can make your Black & White portraits have the same texture and look of traditional black & white prints produced on fiber paper. A wonderful effect is to have your image centered with a white border surrounding the subject. This creates the look of a “printed” artwork that you would purchase in a gallery.
Our Giclee Linen Paper prints offer another special artistic look.. The texture is subtle compared to our Canvas Giclee Prints but it still can add that special touch to any portrait or landscape print.
If you are trying to decide which Giclee print is the best for you situation, please feel free to call Mastercolor, e-mail mcolor@triadbiz.rr.com, or upload your files to us and we will be happy to suggest the best surface for your print.
Digital Poster Prints give the same appearance as a photograph, and are produced in the same method as our Giclee Prints. The only difference is the cost savings for our customers because we are printing on much cheaper substrate compared to those three styles above. In most cases our customers choose to have their prints printed on standard photographic paper because it saves them money. One reason to print a Digital Poster is size. Since the largest paper we can print a standard RA photograph on is 30” wide by any length up to 100’, customers often have their images printed as poster since we can print up to 42” wide. Digital Posters are easier to write on or sign compared to photographic papers. Digital Posters are used for Weddings, Parties and Gag Gifts. Digital Posters are also often used when printing Commercial Display Prints.
